Peace Not War Volumes One and Two
Multiple artists

Volume 1: 2 hours, 17 minutes
Volume 2: 2 hours, 32 minutes

I enjoy a good protest album. I admit it. It's encouraging to me when someone sings about more than surface level themes, although I admit that Rianna might have been on to something with "Together." That being said, a lot of new "revolution music" is terrible. I agree with The New Republic on this one. I'm sorry to say it, but I can only listen to so much of the punk kids yelling about overthrowing democracy.

That being said, the Peace Not War (http://www.peace-not-war.org/index.php) albums are incredibly refreshing. Thanks to Ken Brown, I found albums that include proven artists with a passion for justice. On volume 1, Ani DiFranco starts things off right with Self Evident. Chumbawamba comes back with something a little more focused than the Tubthumper you might remember from middle school, and Yo La Tengo also makes an appearance. 32 songs grace volume 1, with 37 on volume 2, so it's a worthwhile investment and you don't feel ripped off if a couple of the songs aren't quite your style.

As with most multiple-disk albums, I think that the first is better than the second. Either way, it should branch out your musical tastes and you'll have the peace of mind of knowing that you're supporting a good cause.
